Center Signed MoU with the University Oklahoman
Addis Ababa University (AAU) ranked 13th in Best Global Universities in Africa 2019 behind Suez Canal University of Egypt and University of the Western Cape of South Africa.
The University was rated at 13th ahead of Ain Shams University and Alexandria University of Egypt. The ranking was topped by University of Cape Town in South Africa, according to U.S. News and World Report 2019.
Universities in South Africa took a staggering rating in the ranking, occupying seven spots in the top ten.
Only Addis Ababa University of Ethiopia and Makerere University of Uganda managed to be in the top 20 list of the ranking from the East African region.
Each institution was evaluated based on its research performance and its ratings by members of the academic community around the world and in the region. This ranking shows the top global universities in Africa.
It is reported that rankings were produced to provide insight into how universities compare globally.
Since an increasing number of students plan to enroll in universities outside of their own country the Best Global Universities rankings – which focus specifically on schools’ academic research and reputation overall and not on their separate undergraduate or graduate programs can help those applicants accurately compare institutions around the world.
Percentage of total publications with international collaboration, number of highly cited papers, and percentage of total publications that are among the top 1 percent most highly cited papers are some of the ranking indicators used in this rating.
US News & World Report is a global authority in education rankings for more than 30 years.
Addis Ababa University hosts three of the 23 Africa Centers of Excellences funded by the World Bank one of which is the Africa Center of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM).
