ACEWM receives applications starting from April 1 every year. Usually announcements are made before April. Please check Call for Application for details.
Class begins in late September or early October
Supporting documents should be sent to the Center’s application portal/email address alongside the application form.
Currently, the Center enrolls students in only the regular program. However, it is in our plan to open evening/distance programs in the near future.
After completing and defending thesis proposal with detailed budget plan approved by the student’s advisory committee and evaluators. Requests for each activity such as travel, procurement and service fees for the research has to be made to the Center as early as possible. For detailed information please contact the student affairs officer.
Expenses of the research fund shall be settled in consultation with the Finance Specialist of the Center by organizing all the necessary financial documents (i.e. payment vouchers, travel tickets, etc.) and reconciling with the budget plan of the research.
Funding modalities to graduate students vary as per the admission status of the students. If a student is admitted with a full scholarship, the funding may include waiver of tuition fee, monthly stipend, research fund, health insurance, and accommodation. Partially funded students may only get waiver of tuition fee and research fund.
The time taken for Evaluation of Applications may vary depending on various factors. However, accepted applicants would certainly be notified immediately.

There is no dormitory provision to Ethiopian students.
Ethiopian students are entitled to modest research fund.
Addis Ababa University has two graduation endorsement meetings every year, allowing students to defend their thesis and complete their study in either February or July. However, graduations ceremonies are usually held once a year in July.

Any graduate program applicant to the Center must obtain his/her previous degrees from an institute where the medium of instruction is English. Submission of TOEFEL, IELTS, and/or official letter stating language of instruction can also be considered. Students are required to pass university wide English Proficiency Test administered by the University.
The Center’s Student Affairs office and communication office provides assistance to international students of the Center.

As a student you might face a number of difficulties during your study. Hence, discussions with the Center and staff management will very likely be a good help to tackle challenges and go ahead with the work you do.
As compared to other African capitals, living cost in Addis is not very expensive.
During application, it is highly recommended that students mention whether they are applying for the full scholarship or partial scholarship. Only full scholarship holders are entitled to both research fund and monthly stipends.

MSc students must complete their study within two years, whereas PhD students shall complete in four years. In both programs coursework will be completed in the first year and the rest is for thesis (research works). Curriculums can be found in ACEWM website.
Visa and resident permit assistance to newly enrolled international students will be provided by the Center. However, students shall pay fees required to obtain visa and resident permit. Business Visa can be obtained upon arrival at the Bole International Airport. Resident permit for a period of one year shall be requested within a month of your arrival in Addis Ababa. Support letter to request the resident permit shall be provided by the Center.

The Center expects post graduate students to conduct their studies in Ethiopia ONLY. However, if under extraordinary circumstances, the Student is allowed by the CGC of ACEWM to carry out her/his research in her/his home country, for those periods (a maximum of three months) in which she/he stays in her/his home country for research work, the Student shall earn 50% of the total amount of the stipend for the duration of stay not exceeding three months.
ACEWM will organize and pay full insurance coverage (life with accident insurance and health insurance) for students with full scholarship during their stay in Ethiopia. It is the personal responsibility of the Student to assure insurance coverage for any period exceeding the official duration of ACEWM scholarship and for any stay outside Ethiopia. ACEWM will not be responsible to cover insurance for the Student when she/he is staying in her/his home country during any time of her/his study either for research work or family visit.
