ACEWM Showcases Groundbreaking Water Innovations at AAU Research and Tech Expo
Addis Ababa University’s Research and Technology Expo Week, held from May 19 to May 20, spotlighted the theme “Feeding the Future: Harnessing Emerging Technologies and Innovations for Sustainable Food Security in Ethiopia.” Among the key participants was the Africa Center of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM), which drew significant attention with its impactful presentation of “Innovative Water Solutions: Natural Adsorbents for Industry & Society.”
Through an engaging combination of scientific posters and tangible product displays, ACEWM showcased its groundbreaking research on natural adsorbents—materials developed to purify and manage water efficiently in both industrial and community settings. The display aligned seamlessly with the expo’s broader theme, emphasizing the crucial role of sustainable water management in achieving national food security goals.
Professor Feleke Zewge, Director of ACEWM, highlighted the value of the event, stating, “The research and tech expo created an opportunity for the Center to showcase the scientific results we have been working on. It has enabled meaningful engagement with other researchers, policy-makers, and the public.”
Visitors from academic, industrial and government sectors commended ACEWM’s innovative work, noting its practical potential to address pressing water challenges in Ethiopia and beyond. The Center’s participation underscored the importance of science-driven solutions in achieving sustainable development and demonstrated how research can bridge the gap between laboratories and real-world applications.
