The process of admitting students to postgraduate study includes Masters, Specialty Certificate, Sub-Specialty Certificate, and PhD programs. Students need to fulfill the following requirements set by the university in order to be eligible for admissions.

- Candidates who have a plan to join the Addis Ababa University postgraduate programs in any field of study are required to take and pass the Graduate Admission Test (GAT). To register for the test, candidates need to follow the instructions uploaded on the website of the university (aau.edu.et).
- Once a candidate has got the minimum GAT score to apply to a graduate program, he/she must fill the application form online using https://portal.aau.edu.et for the admission processes.
- After completing a form the applicant is getting an application number to settle the application fee of 200 birrs using CBE Birr with a shortcode 242424 (International Students need to pay the application fee for Graduate Program 150 USD).
- The applicant must upload educational records (Degree and Transcript), and other necessary documents.
- Applicants who presented their degrees from abroad need to attach an Equivalence Certificate of their foreign qualification from Higher Education Relevance and Quality Agency (HERQA)6.
- Applicants must produce an official transcript from the university/college where they obtained their degree.
- Following the applicants completed the necessary tasks for their admission; the AAU Registrar’s office dispatches applicants’ documents with their applications form to the respective departments or programs through the College Registrar Offices for further screening and selection processes.
- After the departments or programs applied their own selection criteria, send the selected students list to the registrar’s office.
- The registrar’s office assigned an ID number, make a letter of acceptance, generating of username and password, and send it to the college registrar’s offices to facilitate students’ registration for courses.
2. Course Registration
Once a student is admitted to one of the programs of the university, the next thing to do is register for a set of modules/courses. This has to be done before attending any class/lecture. Before starting registration, a student should go to the college registrar’s office to collect a username and password to proceed with course registration and other processes on the portal. Students must register at the beginning of each semester. A student who fails to maintain continuous registration without officially withdrawing from a program shall be considered to have dropped out of the program.
Students should complete their Online registration process as steps indicated from 1-5.
- Begin by logging into the https://portal.aau.edu.et with your Username (ID No.) and password.
- On the student portal home page— Click on Registration ——>Check your courses, Tuition fees, and registration fee (120 Birr + tuition fees for self-sponsored regular and extension students).
- Complete your Registration fee and Tuition fee (Self-sponsored regular and extension students) using CBE Birr with shortcode 242424.
- Select Courses ——> Click on Submit. You will receive a confirmation notice immediately.
- Click on Logout to close the application.
3. Student Portal
Integrated Student Information Management System (ISIMS) portal is designed aiming to facilitate self-service for students of Addis Ababa University. It is a game-changer application where students get reliable information from both academic and student services. As a student, it is using to perform the following tasks.
