The meeting brought together Presidents of Public Universities and High-Level Representatives of the Federal Government, academia as well as non-government organizations.
The meeting is intended to initiate a discussion on the national strategy and international experiences towards strengthening the quality and relevance of higher education in Ethiopia through national and international accreditation of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
In his welcoming speech, President of Addis Ababa University Professor Tasew Weldehanna stated that Centers of Excellence like ACEWM were established to create an enabling environment for researchers in Africa and beyond to collaborate across disciplines and address key development challenges.
Since the meeting was held following the International accreditation of ACEWM’s graduate programs by the Agency for Quality Assurance (AQAS), frameworks of international accreditation of higher educational institutions and lessons learned from the successful accreditation were presented by Dr. Feleke Zewge, Director of ACEWM and members of the Self-evaluation Report (SER) preparation team.
Similarly, an overview of the higher education accreditation strategy of Ethiopia and AAU’s quality enhancement action plan was presented by Dr. Dereje Engida, President of Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) and Dr. Mekasha Kassaye, Director for Quality Assurance, AAU respectively. Following the presentation, discussions were made based on the questions raised by participants of the workshop.
During the event, a certificate of recognition was given to individuals who were members of the Self-evaluation Report (SER) preparation team and those who facilitated the virtual site visit that was part and parcel of the accreditation process.
