The MOU aims to raise the quality of education and research in water management and contribute to the national efforts to build capacity and address the water resources development and management challenges by the AAWSA.
Being responsible forAddis Ababa City’s water supply and sewerage system development, operation, and management, AAWSA has been working to cope with the rapidly growing demand for water supply. This partnership will help AAWSA attain its goals by collaboratively working with ACEWM in areas of human resource developing, research, and technology development. It will also enhance academic cooperation and sharing of resources towards a sustainable water supply, treatmentof sewer wastewater, and buildingthe capacity of human resources and infrastructure.
The main areas of engagement under this MOU include review and development of curriculum, providing internship opportunities for ACEWM’s students, exchange of time-series data& research reports,and identification of short-term training programs based on the challenges and needs of the water sector. Both parties also agreed to engage in community service activities and facilitate the transfer of technology and research outputs to end-users.
Found in 2016, the Africa Center of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM) has beenengaged in teaching masters and PhD courses, offering problem-solving specialized skills development short term training, developing and undertaking focused research activities to address the water challenges of Ethiopia and Africa, and identify and facilitate the transfer of technologies, best practices and approaches to address the water challenges of Africa.
ACEWM envisions to be a leading teaching and research center of excellence in facilitating equitable and sustainable development and use of water resources for poverty alleviation, socio-economic development, regional cooperation, and the environment in Africa.
This partnership with Addis Ababa Water Sewerage Authority (AAWSA) will foster ACEWM’s vision of becoming a leading teaching and research center of excellence in facilitating equitable and sustainable development and use of water resources for poverty alleviation, socio-economic development, regional cooperation, and the environment in Africa.
