The establishment of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) Ethiopia Chapter marks a significant intent in the country’s efforts to address water-related challenges and promote sustainable development. As a renowned global organization dedicated to advancing knowledge and practices in the fields of hydro-environment engineering and research, the formation of a local chapter in Ethiopia signifies recognition of the importance of water resources management and environmental sustainability in the region.
In its official letter to ACEWM the Executive Director of International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), Tom Soo, expressed his happiness to inform that after a thorough review, the establishment of the IAHR Ethiopia National Chapter has been approved. He also extended his thanks and warm congratulations to all who have contributed to this effort.
Prof. Feleke Zewge is the Chair Person of this Chapter whereas Prof. Tena alamirew and Prof. Assefa Melese are Vice Chairs. Prof.Dr. Eng. Esayas Alemayehu and Dr. Tassew Mekruia are External Affairs. Dr. Dessie Nidaw is secretary of this Chapter and Dr. Beteley Tekola is Treasurer. The Chapter also has five members namely Dr. Adey Feleke, Dr. Birtukan Abebe, Dr. Aster Tesfaye, Dr. Addisalem Bitew, and Dr. Eng. Mebruk Mohammed. Last but not least Dr. Adisalem abitew is Young Professional Representative in this chapter.
The vision of Ethiopia National Chapter is to be the leading association in capacity building in Ethiopia in hydro-environmental engineering to achieving national water and environment policy targets and to address water security and climate change challenges.
Ethiopia, a country known for its rich water resources and diverse ecosystems, is no stranger to water-related issues such as water scarcity, flooding, and water quality degradation.
