ACEWM’s Affiliated Staff Member Dr. Adey Feleke Honored with Prestigious 2025 TWAS-Samira Omar Sustainability Award
The Africa Center of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM) is proud to announce that its affiliated staff member, Dr. Adey Feleke Desta, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 TWAS-Samira Omar Innovation for Sustainability Award. This international accolade recognizes Dr. Adey’s groundbreaking and innovative contributions to safeguarding water environments from contamination, a mission that lies at the heart of ACEWM’s core objectives.

The award was presented during a major conference organized by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in partnership with the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. The event, themed “Building a Sustainable Future: The Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation for Global Development,” brought together leading global scientists and policymakers, highlighting the critical work of researchers from the Global South.

Dr. Adey was selected for her exceptional work in generating critical data that informs water policy and decision-making, directly advancing Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). Her research focuses on developing sustainable wastewater management solutions that are effective even in resource-poor settings, demonstrating a powerful blend of scientific rigor and practical application.
