A PhD candidate at the Africa Center of Excellence for Water Management, Mulumebet Tadesse Retta successfully defended her doctoral dissertation.

The Africa Center of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM) at Addis Ababa University proudly congratulates PhD candidate Mulumebet Tadesse Retta on the successful defense of her doctoral dissertation.

Her research, titled “Determinants of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Service Levels in Healthcare Facilities of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,” examined critical factors influencing the availability and quality of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in healthcare institutions. The study contributes valuable evidence to ongoing efforts aimed at improving healthcare service delivery, public health outcomes, and sustainable water management practices in Ethiopia.

The dissertation was conducted under the primary supervision of Prof. Argaw Ambelu, with co-supervision from Dr. Sirak Roble and Dr. Bezatu Mengstie, all from Addis Ababa University.

The defense session was chaired by Prof. Feleke Zewge of Addis Ababa University, who oversaw the scholarly proceedings and ensured a rigorous evaluation process. The examination panel comprised Dr. Andualem Mekonnen of Addis Ababa University as the internal examiner and Dr. Metadel Adane of Wollo University as the external examiner.

The successful defense marks a significant academic milestone for Mulumebet and reflects ACEWM’s continued commitment to advancing high-quality research and developing skilled professionals capable of addressing pressing water, sanitation, and public health challenges in Ethiopia and beyond.
