The Center has more than 45 senior-level faculty from national, regional, and international institutions. ACEWM affiliated 38 faculty who are engaged in teaching, research, joint supervision of students, and offering short courses.
Adane Abebe
Adane Abebe (Dr-Ing) is an Associate Professor specialized in Hydrology and Water Resources management. He
obtained his PhD (Magna cum laude) from Civil Engineering department, University of Siegen, Germany in January
2009. His dissertation was entitled: „Hydrological drought analysis: occurrence, severity, risks- the case of
Wabi Shebele river basin, Ethiopia‟. He completed his MSc degree at International Institute of Hydraulic and
environmental Engineering (IHE), Delft the Netherlands in March 2000. His MSc thesis was entitled: „Comparison
of the hydrological models AQUA (Lumped) and STREAM (Distributed) model for the Zambezi river basin‟.
He earned his B.Sc from Haramaya University in Agricultural Engineering in 1995.
He obtained postgraduate certificate on: Irrigation Water resources in arid and semi-arid regions and EIA for
sustainable development from Tottori University, Japan in November, 2002.
He received a number of short term trainings. Among others in Dec. 2003: Regional Refresher seminar on
“Modeling Support for management of Water Scarcity” Cairo, Egypt and in March (2010) Ethiopian Universities
management program. North West University South Africa.
He had worked at Zonal Water, Mines and Energy Resources Development Department in SNNPR before joining as
a Lecturer at the former AWTI. Since July 2000 he has been working at Arba Minch University at different
capacities (Department head, Faculty Dean of Water Technology Institute, Research and Publication Coordinator of
the university, Executive Director of IOT).
He has been engaged in research works of the Nile Basin Capacity Building Network and curriculum development
of various academic programs. He is currently involved in consultancy of World bank funded mega water resources
projects and contributed in the review of different river basin master plans of the country.
He has been teaching various MSC and PhD courses at different universities in the country since 2011. He has
supervised a number of MSc and PhD researches at Africa Center of Excellence in Water Management, Ethiopian
Institute of Water resources, AAU; Haramaya Univerity and Arba Minch University.
He has published a number of articles in international peer reviewed journals and book chapters. He presented
research findings in a number of international conferences in USA, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, France, Italy,
China, South Africa and others.
