On December 2021, the Africa Centre of Excellence for Water Management received conditional accreditation from AQAS for its three PhD and Five MSc Programs. AQAS announced its conditional accreditation when the Agency issued Quality Assurance Accreditation Certificate Award to ACEWM last year.

Water, food and energy are the basis for human livelihoods and economic activities; they are also closely interrelated: agriculture, forestry and the energy sector simultaneously depend heavily on and affect water resources.

Ethiopia lacks specialized water analysis laboratories and as a result, is forced to send samples to reference laboratories in other countries. To address this challenge the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has established the Ethiopian Water Technology Institute (EWTI) in 2013 (Council of Ministers Regulation No. 293/2013) with the aim of providing management, best practices, research, capacity building, and technology transfer in the water sector.

Inland tropical freshwater shallow lakes in Africa contribute significantly to local and global communities. These ecosystem services (ESs) contributions are aligned to UN SDGs and demonstrate a positive contribution to humanity in terms of the food systems and climate regulations. Human activities alongside climatic drivers are changing inland freshwater shallow lakes’ ecosystems and associated biodiversity across the globe.

ACEWM’S Water Management MSc. students attended a month-long Externship program in various public institutions specialized in Water Management Tasks. The objective of the program was to facilitate firsthand learning fields for the students so that they acquire empirical understanding and acclimatize operational skills related to their field of study.
