ACEWM Water Management (Water Science and Technology Track) PhD Candidate Muluwork Maru Successfully Defended Her Thesis on December 13, 2022

Muluwork Maru comes up with the idea of Scenedesmus-based water desalination approach to remove salt through the natural photosynthetic process powered by sunlight. This technology is expected to deliver low-cost desalted water. Along the way, she dives into showing recovered algal biomass use and its benefit as an excellent feedstock for biodiesel production.

Call for Application: National Mobility Program for AAU PhD Candidate

PURPOSE: The purpose of this National Mobility Program for PhD Candidates is to enhance AAU PhD candidates’ research capability, promote partnerships with National Universities and institutes, and enhance collaboration. It is expected that PhD candidates conduct research, use specific instruments, and work on publications. This exchange visit is believed to enhance this process and to accelerate the write-up process of the dissertation in a new environment at closer contact with the candidates’ advisors/co-advisors and other researchers in the study area at host University.

ACEWM successfully completed water and material testing laboratory capacity building project

Ethiopia lacks specialized water analysis laboratories and as a result, is forced to send samples to reference laboratories in other countries. To address this challenge the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has established the Ethiopian Water Technology Institute (EWTI) in 2013 (Council of Ministers Regulation No. 293/2013) with the aim of providing management, best practices, research, capacity building, and technology transfer in the water sector.
