The strategic objective of the ACEWM thematic Water Research Agenda is to promote evidence-based implementation of ACEWM water programmes and projects through multi-and inter-disciplinary research, and synthesis of existing and new information, which will lead to alleviating the region’s problem.
The research agenda is guided by a number of principles which include:

• Inventory and consolidation of researches a platform for maximize output from research endeavors
• Multi-and inter-disciplinary research to inform more holistic approaches to water management
• Taking into account of cross-cutting themes to ensure a more comprehensive research agenda
• Developing and application of regional best practices and guidelines
• Understanding drivers of success and failure in water management
