Ethiopian Climate Change Working Group (ECCWG) Launched
The Ethiopian Climate Change Working Group (ECCWG) lunching workshop was held here in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), on January 26, 2023. The event was organized by the African Center of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM), Addis Ababa University, and supported by ILRI-Ethiopia. The goal of the workshop was to officially commence and establish successful partnerships with the key stakeholder institutions to enable the ECCWG to realize its vision, mission, objectives, and implementation plans through a strong and collaborative approach.
ACEWM Held its First 2022/23 Academic Year PhD Public Defense by Lusanjo Henry Mfwango
In his PhD dissertation research defended on November, 29, 2022,Lusanjo Henery Mfwango showed how to dissect and study the impact of Climate and Land use/cover change on the water balance components of Ruvu River (main Ruvu) at Kibungo Sub-catchment of Upper Ruvu catchment in eastern Tanzania”. Concomitantly, He also explored the factors affecting water availability by influencing the hydrological processes of the catchments, eventually impacting environmental and socioeconomic activities.
ACEWM Water Management (Water Science and Technology Track) PhD Candidate Muluwork Maru Successfully Defended Her Thesis on December 13, 2022
Muluwork Maru comes up with the idea of Scenedesmus-based water desalination approach to remove salt through the natural photosynthetic process powered by sunlight. This technology is expected to deliver low-cost desalted water. Along the way, she dives into showing recovered algal biomass use and its benefit as an excellent feedstock for biodiesel production.
